Betül Ertek had a Bachelor of Arts, Letters and Languages with a specialization in "Modern Letters" from the University Lumière Lyon 2 where she continued her master in Human and Social Sciences "Professions in School Education, Training and Culture" with the specialty in “Education and Diversity”. Her master's thesis focuses on "The versatility of school teachers in primary education in France and Turkey: a different conception and issues, linked to the political and cultural dimensions of education". She continued her studies at the University of Rouen Normandie where she carried out her PhD on "Vocabulary development in Turkish and French languages for bilingual French-Turkish and monolingual Turkish and French children aged between 6 and 10 years" in 2017. She completed all her studies in France where she was born.

Doctor in Language Sciences-Linguistic, Betül Ertek has been teaching in the Department of Didactics of French as a Foreign Language within the Atatürk Faculty of Pedagogy at Marmara University since 2013. She teaches in the fields of Research Methodology, Methods of Teaching French and Assessment at the Bachelor as well as in those of Enunciation and Pragmatics at the Master. Her research focuses mainly on the teaching and didactics of French as a Foreign Language and linguistics. Her research interests also include bilingualism/plurilingualism.
