Öz
İsrailoğulları tarihlerinin önemli bir kısmında monoteist inançlarından
sapmışlardır. Paganizmin bereket tanrısı Baal kültü uzunca bir süre İsrailoğulları’nın
dini inançlarını derinden etkilemiştir. Geçen asrın ilk çeyreğinde Ugarit bölgesinde keşfedilen arkeolojik yazıtlarda Baal kültüne dair
önemli bilgiler elde edilmiştir. Bu bilgiler Yahudi kutsal metnindeki İsrailoğulları’nın
bir dönem sahip olduğu Baal kültünün anlaşılmasına ışık tutmaktadır.
Aynı zamanda bu bilgiler Baal tapıcılığının Kur’an’da
eleştirilme gerekçesini de aydınlatıcı mahiyettedir.
