Abstract

Since the formation of Islamic Sufi thought, Sufis have studied the reason for the desire to become competent, which is one of the most severe diseases of the soul, which contains arrogance and the claim of rabb, and have tried to find the source of this disease and dry up this source. Human beings desire to be competent with a motive arising from their nature because beyond the realm of property, which is in his nature as of his creation, the part that Allah breathed into him from his soul when he created man, which comes from the realm of order, in the words of Ghazali, has the ability to be competent. In the work of Dr. Ali Karakoyunluoğlu titled “Human Love of Competence: Knowledge and Power in Ghazali's Thought”, examined the reason for this human desire for competence and how it should be directed from Ghazali's perspective. Ghazali stated that the desire to become the lord, which led many owners of the soul, especially the Pharaoh, to destruction and emerged with the desire to be competent, can be reflected in human life in two ways. A person can satisfy this desire either by being competent in terms of power or by being competent in terms of knowledge. Ghazali has put competence in terms of knowledge ahead of competence in terms of power. The author sought an answer to the question of why Ghazali followed such an attitude and addressed the issue in his work in such a way as to explain the most important parts without mentioning the unimportant parts
