Abstract

 Michel
Foucault (1926-1984) “Başka Mekanlara Dair” (1967) adlı konferans/makalesinde
Batı’daki mekan kavramının evrimini anlatır ve ütopya ile distopyadan farklı
olarak, varlığının tam anlamıyla anlaşılmadığı ve tanımlanmadığı ya da
yanılsamalı olarak anlaşıldığı yerleri heterotopya olarak nitelendirir.  Foucault’ya göre toplumsal düzenin/anlayışın
bir arada olmasına izin vermediği öğelerin bir arada olduğu yerler olan
heterotopyalar, aslında aldatıcı bir düzen ve mantık hissi verirler. Örneğin
sınırlar, ideal anlamda oluşturulmuş yerleşim, hak ve düzen alanlarının
başlangıcını ve sonunu tanımlarlar; ancak gerçek anlamda geçirgendirler ve söz
konusu düzenin sürekli ihlal edildiği yerlerdir. Göreceli bir düzen imajı
sunmalarının yanı sıra, politik, kültürel ve etik düzenin sorgulanıp
yargılanmasına olanak tanıyan güçlerinden dolayı sınırlar heterotopik
yerlerdir.



Cormac
McCarthy‘nin (1933-) İhtiyarlara Yer Yok (2005) adlı romanı, Amerika Birleşik
Devletleri-Meksika sınırında geçer. Romanda, postmodern dönemde sınırların
artık devletler arasındaki hukuku belirleyici temel ya da ütopik niteliklerini
kaybettikleri ve distopya olmadan Foucault’nun deyimiyle heterotopya, yani
bunların dışındaki ‘başka’ mekanlara dönüştükleri ortaya çıkar.
