This
study aims to determine the rights in the exclusive economic zone of Turkey and
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) arising from international law and
analyse the regional risks and opportunities. Turkey and Regional Countries are
comparatively analysed considering the term exclusive economic zone (EEZ)
belong to International maritime law. As a result of the analysis, Turkey has
advantages compare to the other regional countries due to its longest coastline
in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. In addition, the crises experienced by the
countries of the region under the influence of the Arab Spring, the
continuation of the political problem on the island of Cyprus, and the presence
of potential hydrocarbon areas made the situation difficult to determine the
boundaries of EEZ. This study offers Turkey to make three different EEZ
delimitation agreements. The first is to make an EEZ delimitation agreement
with Libya in response to anti-Turkey coalition created by Greece
-Egyptian-Israeli-The Southern Cyprus Administration. The second is to make an
agreement with Syria to determine adjacent coast border. The last is to make
with TRNC in order to determine opposite coast border.
