Abstract
XVI. yüzyılın önemli mutasavvıflarından biri olan ve Gülistan, Bostan, Hafız Divanı ve Mantıku’t-Tayr gibi önde gelen Fars eserlerinin birçoğunu şerh etmesinin yanı sıra asıl şöhretini Mesnevî Şerhi (Şerh-i Mesnevî-i Şerif) ile kazanan Şem’î Efendi (ö. 1012/1603) ile ilgili yapılan akademik çalışmaların sayısı son yıllarda giderek artmaktadır. Doç. Dr. Şeyda Öztürk’ün kaleme aldığı “Şem’î Efendi ve Mesnevî Şerhi” başlıklı çalışması, bu akademik çalışmaların ilkini oluşturmaktadır.
Şem’î Efendi, tasavvufî eserlerden yapmış olduğu Türkçe tercüme ve şerhlerle XVI. yüzyıl ilim ve kültür hayatında ismini duyurmuş mutasavvıf bir âlimdir. Şem’î Efendi’nin Mesnevî Şerhi, Mesnevî’nin tamamını kapsayan ilk Türkçe şerh olması, dönemin padişahı III. Murad’ın (1574-1595) emriyle yazılması, Mesnevî’nin anlaşılması için vahdet-i vücûd terminolojisindeki merâtib-i vücûd bilgisini anahtar kavram olarak görmesi, temel İslâmî ilimler ve tasavvuf literatürüne ait sekseni aşkın kaynak ve üç yüz tasavvufî menkıbeye yer vermesi gibi özellikleriyle devrinde ve kendinden sonra yazılan Mesnevî şerhlerine emsal teşkil etmiştir.
Alanında konuyla ilgili temel kaynaklar kullanılarak zengin bir akademik literatürle hazırlanan çalışmada; Şem’î Efendi’nin hayatı, ilmî kişiliği ve eserlerinin yanı sıra, onun Mevlânâ’nın Mesnevî adlı eserine yazmış olduğu ilk Türkçe tam şerh (Şerh-i Mesnevî-i Şerif), Mesnevî’nin şerh geleneğindeki yeri ve bu geleneğe yapmış olduğu katkıları akademik bir perspektiften incelenmiştir.

Abstract
The number of academic studies on Shem’i Efendi (d. 1012/1603), one of the important Sufis of the 16th century, who gained his real fame with his Sharh of Masnavī (Şerh-i Mesnevi-i Şerif) as well as commenting on many of the leading Persian works such as Gulistān, Būstān, Hāfiz's Dīwān and Manṭeq al-Ṭayr, has been increased in recent years. The study study entitled "Shem’i Efendi and his Commentary on Masnavī" which is written by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şeyda Öztürk, is the first of these academic studies.
Shem’i Efendi was a Sufi scholar who made a name for himself in the scientific and cultural life of the 16th century with his Turkish translations and commentaries of Sufi works. Shem’i Efendi's commentary on the Masnavī, as being the first Turkish commentary to cover the entire Masnavī, being written by the order of Murad III (1574-1595) the sultan of the time, considering the knowledge of meratib al-wujud in the terminology of wahdat al-wujud as a key concept for the understanding of the Masnavī, including more than eighty sources from basic Islamic sciences and Sufi literature and three hundred Sufi manna, has set a precedent for the commentaries of the Masnavī written in his time and since then.
The study that was prepared with a rich academic literature by using the main sources in the field, examines the life, scholarly personality and works of Shem’i Efendi, as well as the first Turkish complete commentary (Şerh-i Mesnevî-i Şerif) he wrote to Mawlana's Masnavī, his place in the tradition of commentary of Masnavī and his contributions to this tradition from an academic perspective.
