FARKLI BİR KENDİNE ZARAR VERME DAVRANIŞI 'VAMPİRİZM': BİR OLGU SUNUMU A Different Self-Harm Behavior 'Vampirism': A Case Report

Year 2021, Volume: 11 Issue: 1, 130 - 133, 15.03.2021

Abstract

ABSTRACT
Self-harming behavior (SHB) is an important public health problem. Especially in the young age group, it is
frequently observed as self-cutting, scraping the skin and burning. To date, vampirism, a different type of
SHB defined as blood sucking and blood drinking, has been reported in a few cases. Although it has been
reported in significant number of cases with such behaviors such as psychotic disorder, personality disorders, mental retardation, substance abuse, dissociative identity disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder,
the psychiatric aspect of vampirism, relationship with comorbid disorders, and treatment approaches are
not fully known. In this study, a 19-year-old male patient, who applied to our psychiatry outpatient clinic
with irritability, complaints about having problems with his environment, and drinking blood by getting him
or his friends since childhood, presented with his clinical history and treatment approaches in the light of
the literature.
